Direct Metal Extraction

Economical extraction of critical metals from oilfield wastewater

Turning waste into value

1 trillion gallons of oilfield wastewater is produced annually in the United States. Traditionally a cost for operators, Direct Metal Extraction (DME) technology enables resin-based recovery of high-value metals from this wastewater prior to disposal.

This turns a cost center into a revenue driver for our partners, and introduces a new sustainable source of critical minerals into the global supply chain.

How DME Works

Direct Metal Extraction is a resin-based extraction process applied on-site at saltwater disposal facilities. Unlike traditional DLE technologies, our process can be configured to capture multiple metals of interest simultaneously, including Lithium, Gold, Platinum, Palladium, and REEs. DME has achieved recovery rates of over 90%, including 92% hydrocarbon removal.

In-Situ Enrichment with LithX

A variation of our proprietary LithX chemical suite formulated specifically for the oilfield is applied down-hole to break up shale, liberating metals and increasing their concentration in
produced water by 4.5x. In addition to supporting metal recovery, this process increases the flow of hydrocarbons.

Turn your waste into value

There are significant levels of valuable metals hidden in your oilfield wastewater. The extraction technology just isn’t economical – until now. We are actively seeking partners to deploy DME across the major U.S. oil basins, reach out to us if you are interested in learning more.
